GUIDELINES AND RULES OF THE FESTIVAL

TOLLARD ROYAL SCARECROW FESTIVAL SATURDAY 20TH OF JUNE – SATURDAY 4TH JULY

Entry form  to be submitted by the 28th of May either via email  (which will be acknowledged)
or posted to Scarecrow Festival c/o The Flints, Tollard Royal, SP5 5PW.
One entry form per scarecrow – please enter as many scarecrows as you like.

Your scarecrow needs to be self supporting – so if it is free standing then please ensure it can stand/sit in position. Sorry we are unable to provide any supports for your scarecrow.

Your scarecrow should be a character from a film, TV show or book – any size scarecrow is allowed.

The Festival is open to everyone and all scarecrows will be displayed in Tollard Royal to be viewed anytime during the fortnight of the festival.

Scarecrows to be dropped in the village at the pond on Saturday 20th of June between the hours of 10.00 a.m. and 1.00 p.m. or if you are a village resident you may display them in your own front garden but please advise with your entry if you wish to do this. If you are unable to make this then please contact us and we will tell you where you can drop off your scarecrow during the week leading up to the festival.

Scarecrows to be collected by 12.00 noon on Sunday 5th of July– any scarecrow not collected will be sent to the scarecrow retirement home.

Judging will take place on Saturday 27th June by an independent judge and prizes will be awarded for winners of the various categories at 12.30 p.m.

The categories for judging are:

  • Best Group or Association Entry
  • Best Family Entry
  • Best individual 10-18 year old Entry
  • Best individual under 8 year old Entry
  • Best Play group Entry
  • Best school entry up to age 9
  • Best school entry up to age 13
  • Best school entry age 13 and over
  • Scarecrow most like it’s character
  • Best Adult (over 18)
  • Best Tollard Royal Resident Entry
  • Judges favourite overall

Lovely homemade cake and tea/coffee will be available during check-in and judging day at the Old Cart Shed.

Please support this event by purchasing tea and cake it would be helpful if you could indicate on your form if you are likely to have refreshments for catering numbers.

We will be taking a photo of your scarecrow which will be displayed on our village website. We would also like the winners to have their photographs taken at the prize giving please if you wish to you may opt out by completing an “opt out” form available at the Festival desk/Old Cart Shed on the 20th & 27th June.

Car Parking in Tollard is limited but for this special festival we have permission to use the Church Car Park during Saturday 20th & 27th. Please follow the scarecrow signs! We would respectfully ask that you do not park at the pond, as this will be reserved for people with limited mobility so that everyone can enjoy the festival.
PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL OF THE RESIDENTS IN THE VILLAGE AND ONLY PARK WHERE INDICATED AND NOT ON PRIVATE DRIVEWAYS OR APPROACHES.

WE CAN NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY INJURY TO PERSONS, DAMAGE TO VEHICLES, SCARECROWS OR ANY OTHER LIABILITY DURING THE FESTIVAL. BY SUBMITTING OUR FORM YOU AGREE TO ATTEND THE FESTIVAL ON THIS BASIS.
